I worked for the U.S. Senate photo studio for 25 years. When people discover where I worked they ask a lot of questions about my job. At the Senate there is the photographers press gallery that supports photo journalists from many news agencies. There is also the Senate Photo Studio and these people are all Senate employees. This is where I worked. There was usually around six full time photographers in our office at any given time. We would photograph Senators meeting with constituents, heads of states, and celebrities. We also took Senators official portraits. These are taken either in a photo studio or on location. For all you history lovers we would get front row seats to historic events. Our seats were usually on the floor or standing on the side. I use to wear knee pads sometimes under my pants, because I would often have to crawl on the floor. I got tired of having bruised knees when I would wear a skirt to church. We photographed all of the follow types of event; hearings, press conferences, art unveilings, retirement parties, gold medal awards ceremonies, military promotion ceremonies, swearing inn ceremonies, First Ladies luncheons, joint sessions, state of the unions, and inaugurations. We would also take pictures for the Capitol police, the Senate Curator, and the Senate gift shop.
